Many heroes have led the cause for Poland’s freedom, but few are as popular as General Jozef Pilsudski. Hailed as the “George Washington of Poland,” Pilsudski was exiled to Siberia, escaped, fought Germany’s Kaiser in World War I, was imprisoned again, and upon his release became leader of an independent Poland. This silver 10 Zlotych was struck from 1934-39 and barely had enough time to circulate before Germany and Russia divided Poland in World War II. Today, these seldom-seen coins are few and far between.
