Issued to commemorate the Exposition held at San Francisco in 1915 to celebrate the opening of the modern marvel that is the Panama Canal, this is one of the scarcest of all vintage half-dollar commemoratives. Designed by Charles Barber (obverse) and George T. Morgan (reverse), it was the first U.S. commemorative to be struck at a branch mint (San Francisco Mint). It was also the first to carry the motto “In God We Trust.” Each comes in Extremely Fine condition.
