The First Lincoln Turns 100!
|
| Issued to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Lincoln’s birth, the 1909 Lincoln Cent would have been coveted enough as a first-year-issue coin. But when designer Victor D. Brenner conspicuously included his initials “V.D.B.” on the coin’s reverse, it caused a nationwide scandal. Only a few 1909-dated Lincoln cents were minted before public outcry got the initials removed from this spot forever. 2009 is the 100th anniversary of this beloved coin. Ours come in an exclusive PCGS holder that features the scandalous initials. |
