This ancient coin of King Azes II has fascinated the Christian world because it was minted by a king who is believed to be one of the “three kings of the east.” Azes II ruled in northern India at the time of Jesus’ birth. Although Azes II ruled very far from Greece, he was very connected to its culture. This is evidenced by his depiction on horseback (obverse) and the Greek gods imagery and legend (reverse)—all classic Greek-style designs.
