| Following WWI (1914 - 1918), Austrian currency reserves were inadequate for daily business. Towns and businesses began issuing Notgeld (or Emergency Notes) in Heller, Austria's former denomination for small coinage and currency. Each note had its own distinct design and was charmingly detailed, most often a reflection of the town's important structures. Although other emergency money exists, the variety and complexity of the Notgeld is unrivaled. This uncirculated, 50-Note Notgeld Set is a historic reminder of post-war Eastern Europe. |
