Japan's long history of rectangular coins and its Samurai warriors both came to an end in the mid-1800s when Westerners and their round coins started trading with Japan on a regular basis. These fascinating, and scarce, rectangular silver and gold coins must have come right from a Samurai's robe because they all look absolutely amazing; each in Almost Uncirculated condition, surprisingly pristine for Japanese coins of this vintage! Our Samurai Silver coins were struck in more than a quarter-ounce of fine silver and measure approximately 15 x 22mm. These last gold coins of the Samurai measure approximately 7 x 13mm.
